Victron Energy Lead Carbon Battery 12V 160Ah (M8)
This lead carbon battery features a unique composite for the negative plate, which reduces sulfation and enhances charge acceptance. The advantages of lead carbon include:
- Less sulfation during partial state-of-charge operation.
- Lower charge voltage leading to higher efficiency and reduced corrosion of the positive plate.
- Overall improved cycle life.
Common Failure Modes of Flat Plate VRLA Lead Acid Batteries
The most frequent failure modes include:
- Softening or shedding of the active material due to frequent cycling.
- Corrosion of the positive plate's grid, which accelerates at the end of the charge process.
- Sulfation of the negative plate's active material, leading to decreased capacity and eventual battery failure.
Charging Guidelines for Lead Acid Batteries
Ideally, lead acid batteries should be charged at a rate not exceeding 0.2C, followed by eight hours of absorption charge. Increasing charge current and voltage can shorten recharge time but may reduce service life due to temperature increases and corrosion.
Lead Carbon Benefits
Tests indicate that our lead carbon batteries withstand at least five hundred 100% DoD cycles. Daily discharge and recharge testing confirms this durability.
